Hand-Pulled Rickshaw
The hand-pulled rickshaw, a symbol of the colonial past, had been introduced to India by the British Raj in the 1800’s. It was first introduced in Shimla and then, to the other parts of the city. A manual labor-intensive mode of transport, the hand-pulled rickshaw has been called out by social activists and agencies for the same. There are now a mere 6000 rickshaw pullers who earn their living ferrying people and cargo from one place to another on these hand-pulled rickshaws.
